Teacher Appreciation Week
Five days to say thanks.
Teachers! We love ‘em. The tireless and dedicated professionals upon whom we foist our children for seven hours a day rarely get the recognition and gratitude they deserve for the work they do. And how could they, really? What is the correct amount of thanks to be doled out in response to the enormity of their task?
Every day—barring the occasional wet asphalt “snow day”—I take the two people I love more than any other humans in the history of the planet and send them off to school, where a group of people who started as more or less strangers to me go about the work of turning them into smart and socially well-adjusted public citizens. Knowing what I know about my own kids, I would have assumed this was actually impossible, except for the fact that it seems to be working! The compassion and care the teachers evince every single day inspires my kids to love them and love learning in return. How does one give adequate thanks for that? It’s impossible!
But this week we can at least try to give them some idea of how important we know their work is, and how grateful we are for them. Every day this school week we’re going to try to do a little something to express our thanks, and we hope you’ll join us in making our wonderful Johnson Elementary teachers feel appreciated. Here’s what we’re doing:
Monday, May 6
Write or draw a special note for a teacher! Bring one from home or stop by the cafeteria before school to make one.
Tuesday, May 7
Chalk Art After School! Stay after school (with an adult) to decorate the Johnson sidewalks for our teachers and staff. Meet at the back of the school at dismissal.
Wednesday, May 8
Bring your teacher a special something! A flower, craft, classroom supply, even just a hug!
Thursday, May 9
Staff and Specials Teachers Appreciation Day! Get as creative as they are to show them how much you appreciate them! A picture, song, and kind words go a long way!
Friday, May 10
Bring a Snack or Treat to your teachers! Whether sweet or salty, crunchy or soft, they will love a little energy boost!
