2025 Dance Party on the green-top!
Can something “quickly” become an annual tradition? I was going to start this invitation to join the PTO on Tuesday, April 29 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on the green-top behind Johnson by mentioning that the spring dance party is “quickly becoming an exciting annual tradition.” The phrasing sounds natural enough, but if something is only happening annually it’s not exactly accurate to also suggest that it is happening quickly at all. How about, instead: “The Green-Top Dance Party is quickly becoming one of our favorite apparently now annual PTO traditions?” “Well, that’s a wordy mess,” you’re thinking—and you’re right—while also now thinking, “and the sub-head of this email explicitly promised there would be no messing about!” All right! Sorry! Sheesh.
The Dance Party is behind the school on Tuesday, April 29 at 5:00. There will be music and dancing and perhaps other activities—who can say?! It’s a great opportunity to spend an evening with the school community and also get a free Sunset Slush for the kids. So pack a picnic dinner, wear your dancing shoes, get a free classic Italian ice, and enjoy a pleasant evening with your neighbors. What’s better than that?
Field Day help needed!
Field Day is coming up on Thursday, May 22 and Friday, May 23. As everyone knows, kids everywhere recognize Field Day as one of the best school days of the year, and Johnson needs your help to make it the best it can possibly be. Please send in a box of Fla-Vor-Ice brand popsicles to the school for freezing and distribution on Field Day, or send in disposable cups for students to drink water throughout the day, or click one of the buttons below to sign up to volunteer in person on the big day. Thanks!
Party in the Park, Sunday April 27
From the fine folks at Bennett’s Village:
We are so excited to celebrate the many ways Pen Park is becoming a place where all can play! Come join Bennett’s Village, Charlottesville Parks and Recreation, and Josie’s Way as we host a free Party in the Park on Sunday, April 27 from 1:00pm to 5:00pm. We can’t wait to celebrate the opening of the treehouse and the accessible path below it (Josie’s Way). The Party in the Park will be a time to come together as a community, play, and learn more about future plans for Bennett’s Village and Josie’s Way. Register using this form and be eligible for door prizes, including gift certificates to Tiger Fuel, passes for Wildrock, and a jersey signed by Tony Bennett.
Coffee with the PTO
It being very nearly spring, the Johnson Elementary spring concert season is very nearly upon us. Come hang out with the PTO before the concerts start and drink a coffee with your friendly neighborhood PTO representatives to see what’s planned for the 2025-2026 school year and how you can be involved.
Wednesday, April 30 — Noon - 12:45 p.m.
Thursday, May 1 — 8:45 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
See you then!
Save the Date!
The last PTO meeting of the school year is coming up on Tuesday, May 6 at 6:00 p.m. in the Johnson cafeteria. We’ll have food to eat and board positions to fill! Please do plan to come out so you can help elect the PTO Board of the Future! A couple of us PTO veterans are in our last couple of months of having kids in elementary school, and it’s time to bring in fresh faces with new ideas about how best to serve the kids and our school community. Looking forward to seeing you there!
That’s it! That’s the end of this message!
There was some light messing about, despite assurances to the contrary. What are you going to do about it?! Might I suggest showing up to the Johnson cafeteria on May 6 at 6:00 p.m. and getting yourself elected Communications Director of the PTO for next year, and then you can write your own PTO emails, free of any messing about.
