Notes on a Zoomless PTO Meeting
We PTO'd like it was 2019.
First, thanks to everyone who came out to one of our meetings this year, or showed up for any of our events, or managed to read all the way to the end of one of these often tortuously long emails. You showed up for your friendly neighborhood elementary school all year long, and we very much appreciate the support and effort. We believe our public schools are an important engine for good in our community and beyond, and your participation in what we do helps us support our school in their mission. So, good work all year long, Johnson family!
While we proved pretty ok at being a mostly functional PTO this year, what we are not, apparently, is fully proficient in the mysterious ways of making Zoom work. Our first link for tonight’s meeting didn’t work, and then our backup Zoom link didn’t work. And so—like a truly dispirited Little Leaguer—we just went and sat on the bench rather than see how strike three might humiliate us, and did the meeting in-person only, like we were living in the carefree pre-COVID days of our children’s early childhoods. Here’s what you missed if you missed us:
Fundraising & Community Outreach Chair
We are hoping to add a new board member to our PTO team next fall. This person’s focus would be on raising money locally from the sorts of businesses—big and small, entirely local or franchised or national chains—that have charitable giving in their budgets. There are all sorts of companies in our community just begging to invest locally in a good cause, and we’re hoping to add a dedicated position on our board with a focus on making those important connections. If you are interested or know someone who might be, please reach out via email or by clicking below!
Fabio’s NY Pizza Fundraiser Tuesday, May 28
If you order dinner from Fabio’s next Tuesday, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, they’re going to donate 15 percent of those proceeds back to the Johnson PTO. All you have to do is order dine in or takeout from the Fabio’s at 1551 E High Street, tell them you’re there in support of Johnson Elementary, and we get some cash. Thanks!
Heading into 2024/2025
Thanks for letting us be your Johnson Elementary PTO this year—it’s been a blast! We’re eager to reset for next fall and start getting ready for an even bigger and better year, with exciting new events and ideas in the works already. And again, thanks for all you do to make Johnson the wonderful community school that it is. Talk to you soon!
