Leopard Laps, the Fall Picnic, and Johnson Teachers Need Your Help!
And just when you thought your doughnuts would be consumed in vain forevermore...
From the mind of child locomotion enthusiast Randi Jennings, we are excited to announce Leopard Laps!
Leopard Laps start Monday, October 23rd!
Who: All K-4th graders!
When: 7:30-7:50, every school morning, weather and schedule permitting
Where: The track around the green-top by the big playground
Join any time! Get in a few laps at the end of your walk to school, after carpool drop off, or right off the bus. We'd love to see you!
Students are welcome to come for as long and as often as they want. This is a school-supported activity, during school hours, so no sign up needed! If, for any reason, you would not like your child to participate, please email Ms. Liz (merline1@charlottesvilleschools.org).
Students who eat breakfast at school are welcome to eat first and then join, or they can grab breakfast when we're done at 7:50.
Big thanks to our community sponsors—Balanced Chiropractic and Physical Therapy and Wegmans—for making this possible! And thank you to Marathon Kids for the awesome—and free!—lap counting app, to make tracking each student's miles traveled a breeze!
Leopard Laps won't run on days with more than a drizzle of rain, if the path is too icy or covered in snow, or on days when the school has a delayed opening.
Email Randi (randi.dayton.jennings@gmail.com) with any questions.
Fall Picnic is coming up on Tuesday, October 17 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The Fall Picnic is less than one week away, and we need your help to make it as fun as possible for everyone! Please sign up at this link to help in any way that you can, and bring a dish to share with our wonderful Johnson family if you are able.
Ms. Flowers and Friends Need You!
The finest elementary school librarian in the mid-Atlantic has reached out to the PTO on behalf of all the specials teachers at Johnson to request a little bit of extra help at the school. Volunteers are requested for the following simple yet immensely important and emotionally and psychologically fulfilling tasks:
Ms. Flowers in Library: Shelving books, book fair volunteers (Dec), help w/K-1 book checkout
Ms. Tucker in Art: Mounting/matting artwork and hanging throughout the school
Ms. Norris in Music: I have things to hang up, room resetting to do throughout the day, and assembling tubs with materials!
Ms. Covington in iSTEM: organizing/restocking materials, cleaning our bins, etc.
Ms. Walters in PE: Bike Week, Field Day, Sport expertise parent examples
Contact the teachers on ParentSquare, or just email Ms. Flowers and she’ll be happy to push you in the right direction. Please reach out to them if you have a few minutes of your day, even if it’s just a one-off, to help our dedicated specials teachers in the way they most need it—with another pair of hands!
Reports of the demise of the Krispy Kreme Fundraiser have been greatly exaggerated.
My colleagues on the PTO have elected to make a fool of your humble PTO news correspondent by extending the Krispy Kreme fundraiser for another seven weeks. I told you it was ending, encouraged you to make emergency doughnut purchases, perhaps convinced you to stock the basement or garage freezer with a year’s supply of doughnuts. Please trust that this hysterical, seemingly used car salesman’s pitch was made in good faith, before the deadline was extended through most of the rest of the year. If you feel fooled and lied to—if you feel that the proverbial doughnut glaze has been smeared over your eyes, like so much wool—my regret is sincere, and this apology is for you.
As penance, I commit to buying at least another three dozen doughnuts by clicking this link. The PTO gets half the purchase price, and I get a whole lot of doughnuts. Please, if you’re feeling doughnutty, join me on this indefinite path of sweet, round, gooey philanthropy. Thanks!
Chimm Thai Spirit Night, coming up on Tuesday, October 24.
Finally, a reminder that Tuesday, October 24 is a great night to visit the Chimm restaurant in Fifth Street Station between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Just mention Johnson Spirit Night, and Chimm will donate a portion of what you’re paying for dinner back to the PTO. Everybody wins!
