Hello Johnson families! It’s your friendly neighborhood PTO dropping back into your inbox after a long summer’s snooze to give you a heads up on where to look out for us this week.
Meet and Greets — Monday, 8/21/23
As you and your students make your way around Johnson on Monday to meet their new teachers, be sure to stop by the PTO table to introduce yourselves or just say hello. We’ll be out there all day with vintage Johnson gear priced to move, and would love to chat with anyone who wants to know what it is we’re trying to do this year.
Maybe you’ve got an idea or two that you think the PTO should pursue, or maybe you’re angling for a spot on the board, or perhaps you just need to do a little reconnaissance to determine our weaknesses for when you launch your PTO coup—whatever you have in mind, we’ll be there at that table, a captive audience. Come say hey!
First Day of School — Wednesday, 8/23/23
No PTO events planned this day. We will be busy expressing deep and abiding gratitude to whatever higher powers might be responsible for the glorious reopening of our lovely local school. Will we miss the kids? Yes, probably, eventually. But not today. Welcome back!
Coffee with the NEW Principal — 8:00 a.m. - 8:45 a.m. on Friday, 8/25/23
We are excited that our new principal, Ms. Georgette Mickens, has happily accepted our invitation to continue the tradition of meeting with parents for coffee at the beginning of the school year. We’ll be outside with coffee and conversation with Principal Mickens and whoever else among the Johnson staff wants to step outside and bravely say hello to the gathered parents. Meet the new principal! Meet other Johnson families! Volunteer for the PTO! Drink coffee! Please meet us around back by the library from 8:00 until 8:45 or so.
Also, please note: Ms. Flowers has requested that we kindly not play the “which pastries stick best to the library windows when thrown at high speed” game again this year. Thanks.
For anyone not able to make the Coffee with the Principal event this coming Friday, Principal Mickens and the magical mystery caffeine tour will be coming to the Greenstone bus stop a week later, on 9/1/23 at 7:15, and another stop Friday after that on Orangedale Ave. Hope to see you there!
Save the Date — 9/19/23
Our first in-person PTO meeting of the school year will take place on Tuesday evening, September 19, at 6:00 pm. We’ll have childcare and food! We’ve got your kids and you covered for dinner, which means you almost have to come.
I think that’s all we’ve got for now. We can’t wait to see Johnson Elementary crawling with kids again this week. See you there!
