Coffee with the Principal III: The Last Carafe
The final stop on Principal Mickens' outrageously successful 2023 Magical Mystery Caffeine Tour is tomorrow.
When the cultural historians eventually put quill to parchment to transmute our collective experience of 2023 into the stories that future generations will hear of our humble time, where will they start? Perhaps with Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour,” or Beyoncé’s Renaissance World Tour, or the dueling box office successes of Barbie and Oppenheimer. But to truly capture the zeitgeist as we have lived it, they’d be wise to begin with Coffee with the Principal.
2023 was the year most of us started really getting back out there. Concerts. Movies. A cup of coffee, half a breakfast pastry, and some pleasant and definitely never awkward chatting with the new principal. We marveled at her commute, engaged in slightly unsure conversation about the school name change, enjoyed getting to know her, were boggled by her energetic happiness given the fact that she’d driven like an hour and a half to show up by 7:15 a.m. And she’s not done yet.
Tomorrow morning, Friday, September 8 at 7:15 a.m., Principal Mickens and your friendly neighborhood Johnson Elementary PTO will be at the bus stop on Orangedale Ave at Bailey St to chat with the Johnson students and their parents and anybody else who happens to drop by. There will be coffee and muffins and pleasant conversation in any amount you are comfortable with, unless you are comfortable with more than about 45 minutes of any of those things, in which case you’ll have to wait for this fine tradition to return in 2024.
Hope to see you out there, and have a great weekend!
