A Very Brief and Definitely Not Rushed Missive from the Johnson PTO
Just a few quick things.
It was a beautiful day for YOUTH SPORT, so your humble PTO correspondent spent like seven hours at the ball field guiding youths in the general direction of something that occasionally looked a bit like baseball. Thus, the following message will not tug at your heartstrings nor make any attempts at a grand unifying theme, and don’t expect to be surprised nor delighted. There’s simply no time for sentiment or whimsy! This is what youth sport hath wrought—an information-only PTO newsletter that has yet to deliver a single piece of information almost 100 words in! We press on!
Sunshine Committee Seeks More Bringers of Sunshine
The Sunshine Committee is a branch of the PTO that seeks to brighten the day of the staff and faculty at Johnson once a month. Here is some copy that someone else wrote about what the Sunshine Committee does, which contains only facts and short, comprehensible sentences, and no ill-advised attempts at humor:
Once a month the Sunshine Committee provides treats for our hard-working teachers and staff. These treats are donated by our generous Johnson families and friends. It is a simple yet important way to show our teachers and staff that we appreciate them and their commitment to our kids.
Jenn Maeng has capably and joyously led the Sunshine Committee for many, many moon cycles, and this is her last year with a kid at Johnson. She’s moving on! She’ll be bringing sunshine to some other teachers in some other school, and someone else will have to carry her work here at Johnson, or else the sun will shine no more. In an effort to avoid a cold, desolate, lifeless future with no sun, we are asking for volunteers to sign up to help organize the Sunshine Committee’s monthly treat distribution. All you have to do is click the button below, and you’ll be able to pick a month to take the lead on bringing the teachers and staff at Johnson some sunshine, usually in the form of themed treats. The PTO and Jenn will of course help at every step along the way, but we’re hoping to have two parent volunteers take the lead and coordinate and organize the event each month. Annual Johnson Fall Picnic is on Tuesday, September 24, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
The Fall Picnic is an event that takes place every year in the fall, and involves the eating of food outside, and is therefore very aptly named. “Fall Picnic.” Brilliant in its simplicity and efficiency. It’s also a great opportunity to hang out and have fun with the whole Johnson community, eat some food, play games, and chat with other families and the Johnson staff. The kids have a blast because there’s almost nothing a kid likes more than being somewhere they go all the time, but at an entirely different time than usual, because kids are very easily entertained.
But the Fall Picnic only works with your help! The PTO provides the hot dogs, but we need everyone to bring some food or drink to share, or help run one of the games, or bring a treat for the cake walk, or perhaps offer to do thirty minutes of family friendly stand-up comedy or a juggling act on the green top. Click the button below to sign up and help make the 2024 Fall Picnic special.
Krispy Kreme Fundraiser Ongoing
Look, I’m no doctor, but probably no one should eat doughnuts, right? But if we humans only ever did or ate the things we SHOULD do or eat, the world would be a pretty boring and kale-dominated place. Doughnuts are delicious and make a workplace breakroom approximately 147% happier. While I’m not here tonight to surprise and delight, YOU can surprise and delight your colleagues with a couple dozen doughnuts! Or buy a stack and feed the kids for a week! They’ll probably get the necessary fruits and veg in the school lunch, right?
By clicking the button below, you can buy a dozen Krispy Kreme Original Glazed doughnuts for $15. Technically, you’re buying a code that you then take to any Krispy Kreme in the country, and then you show the code to the nice people behind the counter and they have to give you a dozen doughnuts. The best part is that for every dozen doughnuts you buy, the PTO gets a cool $7.50. This is great for us, so order away!
Regal Cinemas Fundraiser Ongoing
Look, as a doctor, I’m always telling my patients that people should go to the movies more often. By clicking the button below, you can order two movie tickets for $30 for use at any Regal Cinemas location nationwide. If you’re going to the movies, or planning to one day go to the movies, just order through that link and the PTO will get a chunk of your purchase price. Too easy!

That’s All I’ve Got
That’s not all the PTO information I’ve got, but it’s all you can be expected to handle! (This isn’t true at all. I’m just out of stuff that Laura asked me to include.) So ends another PTO newsletter, and without even a single joke about household pets being or not being eaten. Phew!
Have a wonderful week!
